I saw an article today in which it described Facebook's content cops and the various functions that they serve. Among those functions, they proudly(?) announce that they readily cooperate with police in conjunction with investigations that are being conducted, claiming that their user base knows nothing about the fact that they are readily tracing your location whenever you access Facebook from across the world.
How far we have fallen in the face of conservative fear tactics that we have a widely used social networking site that will proclaim with pride that they have succumbed and sell out their users freedom. The fact that they would even consider cooperating in covert action against their users shows just how insidious the efforts of the police state have become. It has become fashionable now to subvert the Constitution in the name of safety and well-being of the public.
When did this happen? How have we strayed so far from the notion of freedom that we gladly, happily admit to being pawns of the state?
Anyone who rails against these tactics is considered a subversive, automatically labeled one who is likely guilty of some nefarious act, seeking to undermine the system. To that last part, I will proudly SCREAM Yes!! YES, I AM. I'm tired of sacrificing the ideals upon which this country was founded, tired of self-appointed thought police probing into the private lives of every citizen in the name of safety and national security, and TIRED of the politics of fear tearing down the fabric of our nation. If I must live in a fascist state, having served that state for over six years as a member of its armed forces, then I would rather move or, if it came right down to it, die to stop this madness.
